Pets

General pet info

Once you hit level 75, you’ll start finding pets!

There are 20 pets per type, giving a total of 100 to find.

You get additional stats when you have more pets. It’s only the number of pets you have that matters, not the level of pets. Don’t worry too much about the stats granted by pets, just get as many as you can. If you’re interested, the stats gained are: Water = Strength. Light = Dexterity. Earth = Intelligence. Shadow = Constitution. Fire = Luck. If you have 5 water pets, you gain an extra 5% strength.

You also gain a good amount of XP when you win pet habitat battles, so it’s worth maintaining the pets even if they’re not really your favourite play style.

Finding pets

Soon after you get to level 75, you’ll find a basket containing one pet of each element and you’ll find more of them fairly quickly. After that, it gets more tricky and it’s important to know all the details about finding pets.

You can find pets based on the season and date/time of the server, not your local time. Some are very hard to find, as they can only be found during one season or even on one day of the year! At the bottom of this page, you’ll find tables to show where and when you can find most of the pets.

When you hit level 75, three pets of each type will be explored and you’ll see a dull picture of the pets that you don’t have. Explored means that you are able to find those pets. Essentially you should think of exploring as unlocking pets, enabling you to find an egg when you adventure. Taking Water pets as an example, at the start you can find Goldy in Magmaron during the day, Orcahle in Skull Island during the day, and Ochodile in Evernight Wood (or is it Evernight Forest?) at night. I’ll go into day and night in a bit. After you beat the fourth habitat for an element, the fourth pet is explored and you can find its egg.

In order to have a chance to find a pet, you need to take a quest that does not give you an item. Then you need to go to the right place at the right time and you have a chance to find the pet’s egg.

Once you find an egg, go to the pets tab and drag the egg over to the pets panel. The pet’s picture will go from dull to bright and it will display “level 1…”

Time to find pets

You’ll see a bunch of other websites that list if you can find pets during the day or night. I chose to specify the hours in the tables at the bottom of this post, so you can ignore day and night. Also ignore the seasons as I just listed the days/months in the table.

Just know that the time is solely based on the server time. Ignore the day/night status in the real world and ignore if the shopkeepers look awake or sleepy. Just check the server time by posting something in the guild chat and refer to the tables at the bottom and then you’ll know where and when to find certain pets.

Pet mechanics

There are 20 pets per element and they were certainly not created equal. Each of these pets is commonly known as another tier. This is because of the way the pet stats work. Of the first three pets, the third has the best stats, the first has the worst stats. This trend continues. This is why you shouldn’t be surprised if a level 56 pet can’t beat a higher tier level 38 pet.

Because of the increasing stats, it’s best to always start by feeding your third pet and ignoring the first two. Note: this may not be 100% accurate as there’s conjecture around the second fire pet.

Pets level up when you feed them food. You can find food by completing adventures via the tavern. As with finding pet eggs, you can only find food if the quest does not have an item as a reward.

You can feed a single pet up to three times per day. After that, save the extra food for the next day.

You automatically get food when you win a habitat fight or a fight against another player’s pets.

It’s best to focus on one pet as a time. If you feed Water pets 1 and 3 and get them both to level 11, that’s much weaker than only feeding pet 3 and getting it to level 21.

Higher level pets are great because stronger pets will win more habitat battles. You get more XP from those battles and you can unlock more pets, which in turn gives you better stats.

Pet habitats

You can unlock more pets by fighting in battles at the habitats. Typically, your pets will need to be much higher level than that of the opponent, as I mentioned earlier.

When you win a fight, you gain one food of the relevant type, e.g. one Plum of the Water when you beat a creature in the water habitat. You also get a lot of XP!

Which pets should you level up in order to beat certain pet habitats? When should you change to another tier pet? Well, I’ve heard a number of theories. First, you level your starting pet until it’s level 100 and then start on a new pet. Second, you level your starting pet until you get a tier 8-10 pet and then you change. I’m really not sure yet, but if you want to contribute some data, maybe we can all find out together?

lightpets1

That’s the status of my current light pets. The pet I am currently working on, (which has a larger icon than the rest because I moused over it), is a tier 7 pet and is level 63. The habitat I’m up to is the 12th one. You can tell this because 11 of the pets have been discovered, so I’m going for the 12th one. Also, when I click the Light habitat button, it says Light habitat, pet 12/20.

It would be awesome if you could take the time to post which of your pets defeated certain habitats! Please use this format if possible:

My level 56, tier 4 fire pet beat habitat 10.

Data on habitat fights

The data in (ugly) table format is further down.

Pet battles

Every day, you can fight up to five battles against the pets owned by another player near your pet rank. Every day, a random element will be chosen and the battles are against pets of that element.

You can see the player’s name, the number of pets and the total level of that player’s pets for that element. For example, it might say:

With element: Shadow (8 pets)

Level total: 57

This is the only time when pets of different elements interact. Every element is strong against one, weak against one and neutral against three. In the grand scheme of things, this bonus isn’t too large; don’t expect a pet to win against a much higher level pet just because of its element.

Water is good against fire, fire is good against earth, earth is good against light, light is good against shadow and shadow is good against water.

I would encourage everyone to fight all five battles every day. You could skip the fifth one if there’s no way you can win, but even losing has a good side (unless you are ultra competitive).

Rewards for winning

If you win, you gain one portion of food aligned to the element of the day. If you defeat a group of Water pets, for example, you get one Plum of the Water. You also gain honour for the Pet section of the hall of fame. This is okay for bragging rights, but winning more battles actually means you’ll be fighting harder opponents and thus lose more often.

Consequences for losing

If you lose, you lose honour for the Pet section of the hall of fame. This is fine as it means you’ll fight weaker opponents next time. Better luck next time!

Battle mechanics

When a battle is fought, your pets take turns against the enemy’s pets. Usually the group with the single highest level pet will win, but that’s certainly not a hard and fast rule! Instead, this is where guessing is involved.

The maximum level of a player’s pets is the total level minus the number of pets beyond the first. If someone has 57 levels worth of pets and they have eight pets, they could potentially have a level 50 pet (57 – 7). However, they could also have eight pets that are all under level 10. There’s no formula for working out the level of the opponent’s pets, so just take a guess at it. If you want to be really sure you’ll win, send a pet of higher level than their best pet could be. In the example above, send a level 51 or higher pet in order to defeat the opponent’s group of pets. This could, of course, lead to massive overkill, so you can send a lower level group! If you look at the total level of their group and send a group with a slightly higher total level, you’ll win a decent number of your fights. If you regularly win three battles every day, you’re doing quite well. Trust me, you won’t win all the fights, so play around with the battles and have fun!

In terms of the best time to launch your attacks, I have some thoughts on that. If you had a lot of food stored and you log in near the start of the day, feed your pets and then launch the attacks! Some of your pets will be well fed, i.e. they’ve just levelled up, so they’ll be fighting better than their pet rank suggests. If you don’t have stored food, or you log in late during the day, I recommend you start the pet attacks close to when you’re finishing adventuring. You could even launch the attacks after you finish adventuring, as long as you’re going to stick around in-game for a while after this.

Conclusion

Well I hope that was a good thorough introduction to pets and I hope I could teach everyone at least one thing! Please leave a comment below if you can think of anything else that should be added to this guide. There’s one more thing, however, those tables I promised you …

Data on habitat fights

The following tables show data that I have gathered, both from my own observations and thanks to the great data you’ve given me. With this, it shows what level your pet should be able to win a certain habitat fight. Look up your pet’s tier on the left vertically, then look up the habitat level horizontally. If the level is filled in, it means your pet stands a good chance at that level. If it’s not filled in, please post below once you win the fight and then everyone will know!

If an entry shows X, it’s not possible, or at least incredibly unlikely even with a level 100 pet. If 20 attacks fail, that deserves an X.

An example is for a water habitat fight. A level 51, tier 3 Ocodile pet defeated the 9th habitat. Remember that random chance impacts fights, so if your Ocodile is level 50 or below you might still win the fight, and if your Ocodile is level 52 you might still lose! Also note that the number of pets of each type gives them a pack bonus. This may cause some variation on the data, but it’s likely to not be too significant. Remember that these tables are estimates and don’t be too worried if your pet loses a habitat fight!

Note that the dates are in dd/mm/yyyy format. I’m using 24 hour format. I’m using both 0000 and 2400 for midnight, just for clarity really, 0600 is 6am and 1800 is 6pm. Remember all dates are based on the server’s time zone.

The tables below also show where and when to search for eggs. Remember that the pet’s icon must be dull before you can find an egg! You can’t find pets that are still marked with question marks.

Note, some entires in the table say “Evernight Forest or Evernight Wood” because I’m unsure which it is! Both do exist in the game, but it’s uncertain which is correct for each pet! When you find one of the pets, please tell me if the location was Evernight Forest or Evernight Wood and I’ll update the entry. Thanks!

Level up pet 2 or 3. Around level 60 you can unlock pet 10. Switch to 10. Around level 100 you can unlock pet 16. Switch to 16. When you’re at level 100, it may take 50 tries but you can eventually unlock 19. Pet 16 can also unlock 20. Switch to 20.
